Life played on triangles, with up and down triangles alternating along every row. A triangle touches 12 others (3 across its edges and 9 more that only share a corner), or only the 3 across its edges if you choose that. B lists the neighbor counts that bring a dead cell to life and S the counts that let a live cell survive; write several counts with commas and ranges with a dash, for example B2,3/S3-6. Click or drag to draw, press Random for a soup, then Play.

With 12 neighbors the counts run from 0 to 12, so useful rules often have wide ranges. I did not look these rules up: each preset is a rule that a quick search found keeps changing from a random start, with no name and no known gliders. Many other rules freeze or die out, so try your own. The 3-neighbor presets work differently because a triangle has so few neighbors that only a few rules stay active. The grid is an even number of triangles wide and tall so that it wraps around cleanly at the edges.
